Master Circular – Disclosure in Financial Statements
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a master circular on disclosure in financial statements, superseding previous guidelines. The circular outlines the purpose, classification, scope, and structure of the disclosure requirements.
The circular is divided into three main sections:
Section 2: Presentation and Disclosure Requirements
This section covers the presentation of financial statements, minimum disclosures, summary of significant accounting policies, and disclosure requirements.
Section 3: Disclosure Requirements for Specific Items
This section provides detailed disclosure requirements for:
- Capital: Disclosure of capital structure, including current and previous year’s data.
- Investments: Disclosure of investment portfolio, including:
- Repo Transactions: Minimum, maximum, and daily average outstanding during the year, and outstanding as on March 31.
- Non SLR Investment Portfolio: Issuer composition of non-SLR investments, including amount.
The circular aims to ensure transparency and consistency in financial reporting by banks and financial institutions.
