Master Circular – Lending to Priority Sector
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a master circular on lending to the priority sector, which includes:
Categories of Priority Sector:
(i) Agriculture (Direct and Indirect finance)
(ii) Micro and Small Enterprises (Direct and Indirect Finance)
(iii) Micro Credit
(iv) Education loans
(v) Housing loans
Other Important Features of the Guidelines:
The guidelines include targets and sub-targets for lending to the priority sector.
Targets/Sub-Targets:
Section I: Agriculture
1.1 Finance to individual farmers, including Self Help Groups (SHGs) or Joint Liability Groups (JLGs), for Agriculture and Allied Activities.
1.2 Finance to others, such as corporates, partnership firms, and institutions, for Agriculture and Allied Activities.
